Wither
The Wither is the second Boss Mob in Minecraft. It was added in the 1.4 Update. It has a black spine for a body, with 3 heads. This is the only boss as of 1.5.2 that can be spawned multiple times. It can slowly regenerate it's health if damaged.
The Wither is spawned in similar ways to Utility mobs. To spawn one, you need 4 Soul Sand and 3 Wither Skeleton Skulls, which are gained as a rare drop from Wither Skeletons. This makes the Wither hard to create in Survival. The Wither is spawned by placing the 4 Soul Sand in a T-shape, then placing a Wither Skeleton Skull on top of the 3 Soul Sand blocks. One of the Skulls must be placed last, as otherwise the Wither will not spawn if Soul Sand is placed last.
When they are created, they will flash blue and start growing. The health bar will appear at the top of the screen and begin to fill from 1/2 to full. When full, the Wither will explode. Whilst growing, players fighting the Wither are advised to stand back and prepare to fight.
Withers fire Wither Skulls as it's attack, which are launched from it's heads. Each head fires individually, attacking up to 3 players at once. However, the Wither attacks all mobs except Zombies, Skeletons, Zombie Pigmen, Wither Skeletons and other Withers. The Wither attacks all other mobs, though the hostile mobs fight back, resulting in a mob fight.
When the Wither is at half health, it gains the 'Wither Armour' effect, giving it the visual effect of a Charged Creeper. This status makes it immune to arrows, but renders it unable to fly. A common strategy to defeat the Wither is shoot it with arrows until it gains the Wither Armour effect, then hit it with a sword until it dies.
Upon death, The Wither drops the Nether Star, which can be displayed as a sign of defeating the Wither, or crafted into a Beacon.
